Aspect Ecology makes third acquisition in 4 months for APEM Group

A leading ecological planning consultancy based in Banbury, Aspect Ecology has become APEM Group’s sixth acquisition since 2021. WestBridge-backed APEM has added complementary capabilities to their clients through this deal, significantly expanding one of the leading terrestrial ecology teams in the market, adding an additional 40+ ecologists to their terrestrial ecology team.

As their third acquisition in only 4 months, the transaction deepens the Group’s access to the commercial development infrastructure sector, with a particular focus on Biodiversity Net Gain services, accelerating APEM’s growth strategy.

Our Capital Law team has seen APEM’s significant growth first hand over the years, having also advised on the last five deals. Our cross-departmental team included Tom Kelleher, Sarah Hale, Cerith Bevan (Corporate & Private Equity), Kellsey Logue and Sarah Morgan (Commercial), Lewis Kerr and Mary Goldsbrough (Employment & Pensions), and Angharad Jones and Toby Girdler (Real Estate).

APEM Director of Mergers & Acquisitions James Winterbottom commented:

We are thrilled to welcome the Aspect Ecology team to the APEM Group and further strengthen our broader, terrestrial ecology offering. Aspect has a superb reputation in its market and we look forward to supporting the Aspect team and customers through a continued focus on a high quality service and data.
Capital Law have once again been a fantastic support to APEM’s acquisitive growth and I would like to thank the team for all their efforts and assistance.

Tom Kelleher, who leads Capital’s Corporate & Private Equity team, said:

It’s fantastic to watch APEM go from strength to strength as they continue to broaden and deepen their offering, at home and overseas. We really enjoy working with the team and it’s clear to see why they’re such a highly regarded player in the industry. We’re looking forward to supporting them in the next phase of their growth.

APEM Group CEO Leah McGimpsey commented:

I am delighted to welcome Aspect Ecology to the APEM Group. Aspect Ecology bring a deep expertise in terrestrial ecology to the Group, building on our existing market-leading capabilities and significantly increasing our strength and depth. This acquisition provides substantial opportunities to continue our expansion into the infrastructure and built environment market alongside further growth in the renewables and water sectors.
As the need for clean infrastructure increases, Aspect’s knowledge of, and work with clients in, assessing the biodiversity of developers’ plans and how to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain solutions, will be of real value to APEM’s own clients.
