Cambrian Training Group becomes employee-owned

Cambrian Training Group, one of Wales’ leading providers of apprenticeships and vocational training, has transitioned to employee ownership – securing the future of the business for its 65 employees.

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Welshpool, Cambrian Training Group delivers work-based learning and skills and apprenticeship programmes into hospitality, food and drink, manufacturing, retail, business administration, financial services, childcare, health and social care. With a strong reputation for excellence and community impact, the company has consistently been recognised for its contribution to skills development in Wales.

The move to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) sees 100% of the shares transferred to a trust on behalf of its employees, securing the long-term future of the business and empowering its 80-strong team with a direct stake in its continued success. Founding director, Arwyn Watkins OBE, will be stepping down as director but is remaining on the EOT board ensuring a smooth leadership transition and continuity of values.

Our Corporate and Private Equity team, led by Marlies Hoecherl and Cerith Bevan and supported by India Link-Jones and Jack Dunne on behalf of the EOT, and consisting of Melanie Williams and Nadira Islam on behalf of the Sellers, advised on all legal aspects of the transaction.

Cambrian Training Group now joins a growing number of Welsh businesses adopting the employee ownership model, an approach that promotes long-term stability, employee engagement, and sustainable growth.

Cerith Bevan, Associate at Capital Law, said:

It was a pleasure to support Cambrian Training Group through this important milestone. The shift to employee ownership reflects the company’s strong values and commitment to its people. We’re proud to have played a part in helping to secure its legacy and future growth in the hands of those who helped build it.

Arwyn Watkins at Cambrian Training Group said:

For any business considering moving forward with the establishment of an EOT it is critical that you secure professional legal advice and guidance from a team that fully understands the process. We have found Capital Law to be the perfect partner in enabling us to secure our ambition for succession planning and the future sustainability of the Cambrian Training Company Group.
