Marlies is a Partner in our Corporate & Private Equity team. She manages a wide corporate and commercial practice, often with an international or cross-border angle.
Marlies advises on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate reorganisations, commercial contracts including SLAs, and commercial joint ventures, mostly with cross-border aspects. She also has specialist expertise in the education, energy, and food and drink sectors.
Marlies has carried out numerous non-contentious insolvency transactions and restructuring projects, including pre-packs and cross-border insolvency transactions. She has also advised foreign clients on UK insolvency issues as well as transactions, and director’s duties and liabilities and, with the assistance of an extensive network of foreign lawyers, has supported a number of UK clients on foreign insolvency issues.
Marlies leads Capital’s international offering and heads up both the Chinese and German desks.
Shes holds a Master’s degree and PhD in Archaeology, speaks German and French fluently, and reads Italian and Spanish.
Marlies is a passionate advocate of language learning and often gives talks about the benefit of modern foreign languages in the workplace.
Marlies was also a long-time board member of Consulegis, an international network of independent law firms. In March 2020, she was appointed to represent Switzerland in Wales and act as Honorary Consul in Cardiff. In November 2023 she was also appointed as Honorary Consul of Germany covering most of Wales.
