Specialist electrical engineering business, Hornbill, sold to OCU Group

Capital Law has advised the shareholders of Hornbill Engineering on the sale of the business to Triton Partners-backed OCU Group.

Hornbill is a specialist electrical engineering business which has grown into a full turn key solution for electrical, instrumentation and training services with headquarters in South Wales. Hornbill’s expertise in a diversity of market sectors, including the power, water, gas, renewables, metals, and chemicals industries strongly complements OCU’s Energy Services division which Hornbill will form part of.

The shareholders of Hornbill were advised by Capital Law’s Tom Kelleher, Hakeem Din, Sara Thomas and Fern Dempsey. Grant Thornton acted as Corporate Finance advisers to the shareholders on the deal.

The deal has since been named Insider Media’s Deal of the Month for July.

Tom Kelleher, who leads Capital’s Corporate & Private Equity team, said:

Having worked on the initial MBO back in 2021, and then with Hornbill over the last few years, we know what an impressive business and management team they have and it’s an excellent addition to the OCU Group. A great deal to work on and another milestone in the success story of Hornbill which will go from strength to strength.

Darren Edwards, partner at SME Finance Partners, said:

I’d like to thank Tom, Hakeem and the team at Capital Law for their fantastic support throughout this transaction. Having worked with Capital Law on the initial MBO two years ago, we knew they were the best advisors to support on the subsequent sale of the business, and they played a major part in securing this successful outcome.
