The University of South Wales (USW) Legal Advice Clinic initiative sees junior lawyers and trainee solicitors from Capital Law collaborate with student volunteers, to provide pro bono legal advice to the community.

Capital Law has been supporting the USW pro bono legal clinic for six years, offering support and guidance on a range of queries covering all practice areas. This allows USW to open their doors to all members of the public and local businesses, giving them access to a broader range of services free of charge.

Our team of trainee solicitors work in pairs to help law students understand the issues and needs of the clients and the objectives they wish to achieve. Our trainees are able to take the lead and assist with real world queries. The variety of cases also means that trainee solicitors get to work with colleagues from all departments within Capital from the very start of their training contract, and gain exposure to different practice areas. Trainees work across employment, commercial disputes, real estate, corporate and private equity, commercial, and public and regulatory.

Employment Senior Associate, Nina Holmes, has been working with the clinic since the beginning of the partnership in 2020. Nina said:

It’s been six years since our partnership with the USW Legal Advice Clinic began. The clinic makes a huge difference to both the student experience at USW and the lives of those who use the service. For our trainees, this partnership provides a fantastic opportunity to engage in the local community and use their skills and knowledge to support those who need it most.

UK Pro Bono week is celebrating 25 years of promoting and supporting high standards of pro bono work.
