Rebecca is a Senior Associate in our Employment and Immigration team. She advises on various non-contentious and contentious matters, from corporate transactions to bringing and defending employment tribunal claims.

Rebecca works with businesses of all sizes and particularly enjoys working with exciting start-ups. She has done a lot of work with our InsurTech and FinTech clients, combining her employment expertise with increasing knowledge of the requirements of our regulated clients.

Rebecca assists on complex corporate sales and acquisitions. In particular, she has recently supported our corporate team with executive and non-executive appointment arrangements, implementation of EBITDA bonus arrangements and TUPE queries.

She has a case load of over 30 live employment tribunal claims, acting for both Claimant and Respondent. She also has extensive experience in advising on and negotiating exits via settlement agreements (and COT 3 agreements), including for numerous directors/shareholders on sensitive and high-value exits.

Rebecca has particular expertise in issues relating to employment/worker status, having advised numerous public and private sector organisations, and individuals, on their obligations under the off-payroll working rules (IR35).

Brought up in rural Carmarthenshire, Rebecca can speak Welsh and also studied French as part of her LLB studies.

  • Providing support on complex corporate acquisitions and sales by assisting with employment-related due diligence, contract drafting/reviews, the application of TUPE and settlement arrangements for departing sellers.
  • Advising on challenging redundancy issues in light of the coronavirus pandemic, to include navigating rules on furlough and collective consultation issues.
  • Supporting businesses with employment/worker status issues and obligations under the off-payroll working rules (IR35).
  • Advising on and negotiating exits via settlement agreements (and COT 3 agreements), including advising numerous directors/shareholders on sensitive and high-value exits.
  • Preparing ET1 and ET3 Responses, disclosure exercises/bundle preparation for various clients facing employment tribunal claims, representing clients at preliminary hearings.  Advising on litigation risk/strategy, liaising with and supporting instructed counsel, providing guidance to businesses and individuals on tribunal process.
  • Day-to-day HR and employment law support to a wide-range of businesses, both in Cardiff/west-Wales and London. Dealing with ad-hoc queries and urgent ER issues. Assisting with matters such as holiday or notice pay calculations, contract drafting and tailoring, drafting policies and procedures, cultural change initiatives etc.
  • Helping businesses and public sector organisations navigate the complexities of IR35 and the off-payroll working rules, prepare ahead of the introduction of the new off-payroll working rules in April 2021. This has included delivering training on undertaking assessments as to whether the off-payroll working rules apply, using the “CEST” tool, and preparing a status determination statement.
  • Delivering training sessions on HR/employment law matters including the Equality Act 2010, off-payroll working rules and case law updates for a variety of audiences (including in-house to colleagues  round table/industry specific events and both public and private sector clients).
  • Writing articles, case law updates and thought leadership pieces on a variety of topical subject matters.
