Capital Law was named ‘Best Advisory Firm of the Year’ at the FinTech Awards Wales 2025, held on Friday 5th September. The event, hosted at the Tramshed, Cardiff, brought together leading innovators and digital experts to celebrate Wales’ thriving FinTech sector.

FinTech continues to play an essential role in shaping the future of Wales, and this year’s FinTech Awards Wales emphasised the nation’s position not only as a leading UK hub for digital finance, but as an emerging player on the global stage.

The Awards aim to recognise, attract and invest in FinTech companies and professionals working in Wales, as well as celebrating the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals who are making a tangible impact on the sector. We were thrilled to see one of Capital’s valued clients, Final Rentals, win the ‘Best Growth Story/Scale up of the Year’ award, as well as seeing the presentation of the ‘Outstanding Contribution to FinTech in Wales’ award go to the founder of Admiral Insurance and Confused.com, Henry Engelhardt.

Capital’s achievement as this year’s ‘Best Advisory Firm’ highlights the outstanding and innovative work of our Financial Services team in FinTech, and as a firm we’re proud to work closely with Wales’ FinTech networks.

Capital have been members of FinTech Wales for 6 years, with Partner, Rachel Hillier, sitting on the Board. We currently support the FinTech Wales Foundry, providing mentorship, training and support to its FinTech start up cohort. One of this year’s Foundry members, Cavefish, won the ‘Best use of AI’ award and Foundry alumni, Credit Canary, won the ‘Fintech for Good’ award.

Capital’s Financial Services team, led by Rachel, supports clients in FinTech as well as consumer credit, cryptoassets, FCA investigations, insurance innovation, wealth and more.

The team continues to grow with Bo Kay Fung joining the team this year. Formerly a legal adviser to the FCA’s Regulatory/Decisions Committee, Bo is leading the team’s increasing expertise in assisting firms under FCA supervision or investigation, and representing them in FCA contested enforcement proceedings.

Rachel Hillier commented on the team’s achievement in FinTech, saying:

Winning this award is recognition of our in-depth expertise in financial services regulation, alongside our industry-focused pragmatism.”

Wales has the fastest growing digital economy outside of London and Capital is proud to support the innovation that’s driving the country’s FinTech sector forward.
