Five key points for ensuring fire door safety

Back To Latest News

Fire doors are essential for saving lives and protecting property in a fire. Spotting and addressing issues early can make a life -saving difference. Here are five key points to help ensure a fire door performs as it should when it matters most:

  • Check that the fire door has a valid certification mark, this confirms it has been tested and meets the required safety standards.
  • Look for any unauthorised alterations. Only correctly installed and certified components should be present.
  • Ensure that the gap between the door and the frame is no more than 4mm, and intumescent seals (which expand when exposed to heat) are present, undamaged, and continuous around the edge.
  • The door must have a fully functional self -closing mechanism that ensures it shuts completely and securely onto the latch without resistance or slamming.
  • Test the door regularly to make sure it opens and closes smoothly. It should never be wedged open and must always shut firmly.
