What You Need to Know When Visiting the UK for Business

In this series of video conversations, we team up with specialist immigration barristers from Five Paper Chambers to simplify key immigration issues for UK businesses.

In the second of our series, we delve into what you need to know if you’re visiting the UK for business.

From 31 January 2024, the following changes were made to the visitor route:

  • The range of permitted activities for visitors was expanded. For example, those visiting the UK arm of an international business, can now work directly with clients in the UK (providing it is incidental to their role overseas and does not amount to ‘off shoring’ of a project to the overseas entity).
  • Visitors can work remotely while they are in the UK providing this is not the main purpose of their visit.
  • Permitted Paid Engagements can now be done under the normal visitor route. This means anyone wanting to come to the UK for a permitted paid activity, no longer needs to get specific permission from the Home Office before coming to the UK. The ‘engagement’ must be pre-arranged and they must carry out the ‘engagement’ within 30 days of entering the UK (but can still stay for up to 6 months).
