Debbie is Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Inmarsat plc, the world's leading provider of global satellite communications – this truly is rocket science! While based in London for her work, Inmarsat has worldwide operations and is a diverse, multi-cultural environment. Debbie was appointed to the Capital Law Board in 2007, to advise on people strategy in the then new and ambitious business and to support the development of a “can-do” culture where the approach to value, reward and personal development breaks the more traditional mould of law firms generally. This is complemented by Debbie’s role in Consult Capital, an HR solutions business (amongst other things) that has been drawn alongside the Capital business to extend a broad range of HR services to Capital Law clients.
By way of background, Debbie held various operational management roles within the DTI, became Head of HR at Companies House before her next career move to Eversheds, where she established the National HR Consultancy within the Employment Law team. Inmarsat offered her the opportunity to take a strategic role in the transition of the business from its Inter-Government Organisation origins through privatisation, acquisition by Private Equity houses Apax and Permira and ultimately into a FTSE 100 plc following its flotation on the London Stock Exchange in 2005.
Debbie’s current role draws on her HR and relationship management expertise as she has responsibility for the smooth alignment of Stratos Global with the Inmarsat company. Currently Stratos is one of Inmarsat’s major customers, which will be acquired in April 09 and this vertical alignment will bring an additional 700+ staff across 22 worldwide locations into the Inmarsat family. Debbie intends to support the businesses through this transition and inevitable changes, with the objective of valuing the good qualities of each business and advocating change only where there are clear efficiency gains or natural synergies but not simply change for change sake. As an NLP Practitioner, Debbie’s aspiration is “to be the difference that makes a difference”.
