Capital Law to provide advice to TV companies

CAPITAL LAW has won a contract with S4C to provide a policy and employment service for the independent television production sector in Wales.

The two-year contract – the first of its kind to be awarded by the Welsh language channel– will see Capital Law providing employment advice and legal services to production companies to ensure they conform with S4C’s policy and rights requirements.

TV companies will also benefit from human resources, health and safety and occupational health training delivered via Capital Law’s in-house consultancy, Holistic Services.

The contract will see the Cardiff Bay and London-based law firm updating and advising the production sector on employment policies and providing bespoke and standard contracts of service across all of the production companies’ employment activity.

Capital Law will also represent production companies in discussions on employment arrangements with the unions operating within the sector, and discuss and agree rights and fees frameworks for programme contributors with the appropriate unions. The firm will provide an advisory role and assist with the resolution of employment disputes through conciliation, mediation or arbitration.

Sion Clwyd Roberts, former head of business affairs at ITV Wales, is joining Capital Law to deliver the contract alongside practice partner and employment team head Elin Pinnell and employment lawyer Iestyn Morris.

Mr Roberts brings more than 20 years’ experience as a senior commercial executive in the film and television industry, managing legal and business affairs issues and negotiating with trade unions.
